Low cap vs high cap, at the same ticket price

The number that matters is the total ticket count. At a £2 ticket price, a low cap and a high cap give you very different chances. Here is how that looks in practice.

  • Low cap example: 500 tickets at £2 each. Buy one ticket and your odds are 1 in 500. Buy ten and your odds are 1 in 50.
  • High cap example: 5,000 tickets at £2 each. Buy one ticket and your odds are 1 in 5,000. Buy ten and your odds are 1 in 500.
  • Same prize, same ticket price. The cap alone moves your odds by a factor of ten.
  • On Odds Up we cap tickets deliberately, because better odds make for a better experience. The total is shown on every competition before you enter.
  • Automated draws use cryptographically secure random selection with a published audit trail, so the cap actually means what it says.
  • Paid competitions include a free postal entry route. If the deadline arrives before tickets sell out, we follow the draw or refund process set out in the terms.

What counts as low odds in a UK prize competition?

There is no formal threshold, but odds of 1 in 500 or better on a single ticket are typically considered low for a UK prize competition. On Odds Up, our caps mean odds often start as good as 1 in 50 once you have bought a small number of tickets, depending on the competition.
